GURUGRAM: The Gurugram district and sessions court sentenced a 28-year-old man to rigorous life imprisonment for repeatedly raping and threatening his 15-year-old cousin sister for over two months, after which the girl died. “The court, considering the fact and circumstances, coupled with the aggravating factor that a gruesome act was committed by the convict, by which he had not only defiled the body of the girl but also put an indelible mark on family members. He gave poisonous medicine to the girl after she complained of pain and died undergoing treatment,” said Raj Rani Gupta, additional sessions judge, Gurugram.

The court, while sentencing the man to life, said the severity of his offence is serious as he had raped the girl for the first time when she was just 15-years-old. “For these dastardly acts, he deserves no sympathy or leniency,” the judge said.

The court sentenced the convict to rigorous life imprisonment for aggravated sexual assault, punishable under Section

6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and to pay a fine of ₹1.60 lakh for the offense of rape and murder. He was furthered sentenced under Section 506 (threatening for life) of the Indian Penal Code to undergo rigorous imprisonment.

According to the prosecution, the girl was a minor when her cousin brother abused her, from May to June in 2017, and convinced her to elope to Nanital but later took her to Sector 37 to a friend’s place and gave her some medicine to ensure no pregnancy is detected. According to the girl’s statement, the first time the convict had raped her was when she was alone at home and the offense was repeated by the convict for more than two months.

The convict often assaulted her and threatened her not to disclose the incident to anyone, or she would face dire consequences. The order stated that the girl was admitted to Civil hospital and she died during treatment. The convict has been in jail since his arrest in June 2017.
