The art of oversized trench
Atrench coat is the sartorial Holy Grail, and can immediately alter one’s personality and often enhance one’s mood, too. So, whether you want to channel your inner Humphrey Bogart from Casablanca or Kerry Washington from Scandal or Brad Pitt from Ocean’s Twelve, trust the trench’s versatility to create magic. The recently unveiled Spring Summer ’21 menswear collections, too, saw trench presented in an exaggerated format at labels like Tod’s, Wooyoungmi, Homme Plisse Issey Miyake, Etudes, Loewe, Rick Owens, MSGM and Zegna.
“An oversized, exaggerated silhouette is the way to go. Team your supersized trench coat with a pair of baggy, pleated pants and a drop shoulder shirt,” says stylist Nitasha Gaurav.
”With enough room for comfort and things in pockets, it’s also nonchalant in the sizing, and doesn’t discriminate against the wearer. It’s a street-meetstailoring and has a no-fuss wearing approach. One coat does all... goes with anything simple like T-shirt and jeans, or for work, on top of a shirt and trousers. And it is also great for a day of travel from work to the airport,” says stylist Akshay Tyagi.
