GURUGRAM: The Haryana government on Monday issued a notice revising the timings of all government and private schools in the state from 8am-2.30pm to 7am-12pm from Wednesday due to the intense heatwave and frequent power, officials said.

The decision was taken after several teachers across the state wrote to chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar and education minister Kanwar Pal Gurjar requesting them to reduce school timings by at least two hours this summer. “Due to intense heatwave conditions prevalent throughout Haryana, it has been decided that the timing of all schools (government and private) will change to 7am12pm for all classes (1-12) with effect from May 4, 2022,” said the order issued by the Directorate of School Education.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Gurugram will witness clear skies on Tuesday and partly cloudy skies on Wednesday. The maximum and minimum temperatures could hover around 42°C and 29.0°C on Tuesday, and 40°C and 29.0°C on Wednesday.

Rashmi Malik, principal of Salwan Public School, said they have received requests from parents for online classes due to the heatwave and electricity issues. Meanwhile, the association of government primary school teachers has also demanded the government call for an early summer vacation.

Gurugram deputy commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav said that they will try to resolve the issues faced by the students and parents. “All schools will be asked to follow the directions of the state government,” he said.
