GURUGRAM: Around 100 homebuyers of Sai Aaina project in Sector 68 staged a protest at the office of department of department of town and country planning (DTCP), Gurugram, on Tuesday after the authority cancelled the licence of the housing project.

Homebuyers protesting against the DTCP said most of them had already paid the full amount to the developer and were expecting to get the possession of their flats by this year.

The DTCP on Monday cancelled the licence of the Sai Aaina project, citing that land documents, agreements and bank guarantee documents submitted by the developer were allegedly found to be forged.

Located in Sector 68, the project was being developed by Mahira Homes since 2017 and was set for completion this year. The homebuyers said around 1,500 flats were to be constructed in 12 towers, of which seven towers are already built.

Dhruv Kapoor, who was looking to buy a flat in the project, said almost all the buyers have made full payments and now, they have been left in the lurch due to the sudden cancellation of the project. “The DTCP should have checked the documents and papers and taken action against the developer. The buyers were not informed about the direction issued in 2020 that construction on the housing project should stop. We too would have stopped our payments. Now, all our money is stuck and there is no hope of getting a flat,” said Kapoor.

Senior town planner, Gurugram, Sanjeev Mann said they have asked the deputy commissioner to initiate the process of transferring the land--allotted to the housing project--to the DTCP. “We will also take over the project site. We have also asked HRERA to freeze the accounts of the developer,” he said.

District town planner R S Bhath said they have recommended that a criminal case be registered against the developer for submitting forged documents.

A spokesperson for the developer said they were not given a proper hearing in the matter and the decision must be reconsidered. “We have all the valid documents and these will be submitted in due course. We have always upheld the right of our buyers and will continue to do the same in future,” he said.
