HELICOPTER YATRA STARTS FOR
ADI KAILASH AND OM PARVAT IN UTTARAKHAND The aerial transport service will boost the tourism sector and make Uttarakhand more accessible to pilgrims and tourists.
In April, Roachak Saxsena, a Delhi-based advocate, found himself at the heart of a historic moment. He was one of the first pilgrims to embark on a helicopter yatra to the sacred Adi Kailash, organised by the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB). Saxsena found the experience “mesmerizing” and was speechless at the sight of Lord Shiva’s abode without the usual arduous trek. He credits Uttarakhand Tourism and Trip to Temples for making this dream come true and highly recommends it to his loved ones.
The UTDB has introduced an innovative approach to enhance accessibility to Adi Kailash and Om Parvat for devotees and tourists. This year, the UTDB launched the aerial yatra, allowing a unique pilgrimage experience. The first group embarked on April 15, and flights will operate until May 9th. After this initial phase, the yatra will resume during the winter season ( November to March) to cater to the snow-covered conditions.
This innovative project is the product of a successful partnership between UTDB and Noidabased travel agency Trip to Temples. UTDB played a crucial role in securing the necessary approvals and laying the groundwork for the yatra. Trip to Temples, on the other hand, brings its expertise in marketing and operations to the table, ensuring a smooth and enriching experience for pilgrims.
The winter pilgrimage, scheduled from November to March, presents a comprehensive four-night, five-day package commencing and concluding in Pithoragarh. Modern H-125 helicopters will transport the pilgrims, while ATVs will provide supplementary assistance in traversing the challenging terrain. The itinerary guarantees six thrilling helicopter rides, offering awe-inspiring aerial perspectives of the magnificent Himalayas.
Uttarakhand Tourism Secretary and UTDB CEO Sachin Kurve informed Hindustan Times that the aerial pilgrimage to Adi Kailash and Om Parvat has been launched by Uttarakhand Tourism. “The first public yatra commenced on April 15th and will continue until May 9. We’ll then resume operations in the winter months, from November to March,” Kurve said.
The pilgrimage extends beyond mere access to holy places. Its objective is to empower the nearby communities as well. Travelers will find comfortable homestays in the delightful villages of Gunji, Nabhi, and Napalchu. It not only provides a unique cultural experience but also generates much-needed winter employment opportunities for local residents.
Vikas Mishra, Founder and CEO of Trip to Temples, expressed his company's immense pride in being part of this historic project. He looks forward to future collaborations and contributing to the development of sustainable and accessible pilgrimage experiences in Uttarakhand.
This helicopter yatra marks a significant step towards making the wonders of Uttarakhand more accessible to pilgrims and tourists.
