BSF jawan’s kin seek probe into death

-

KOZHIKODE: Suspecting foul play in the death of a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan in Punjab, the relatives of the victim on Wednesday demanded a high level probe into the incident that took place more than two years ago.

Addressing a press conference, BSF constable Kokkara Meethal Baiju action committee chairman PK Mukundan and convener K Rajeevan said the relatives of the deceased had received an anonymous letter in Hindi, purportedly written by Baiju’s colleagues recently saying that he was murdered by “certain unscrupulous elements” in his unit, 30 BSF battalion in Jalalabad, Punjab.

They said the relatives in Naduvannur village in Kozhikode district were informed by the unit that Baiju died after he fell from a two-storied building on August 27, 2009, which was the day of his departure for leave.

Two days later, the body was brought to his native place accompanied by two of his colleagues, who said that Baiju died a natural death.

Now, the letter has alleged that Baiju was murdered and his body was thrown from the building as he was hesitant to support smuggling activities of certain colleagues, including some senior officers in the unit prompting the relatives to press for action, they said.

The relatives, his wife KM Seena and mother KM Devi Amma had also submitted a memorandum to the defence minister AK Antony and other leaders seeking their assistance in the case, they said.

The post-mortem report given to us was not clear and we could not read the cause of this death, the family said in the memorandum.
