Special medical team to examine Shravan sexual abuse victim
ROHTAK: A day after the sexual harassment of a mentally challenged inmate of a shelter home came to light, the postgraduate institute of medical sciences (PGIMS) on Monday constituted a special board to medically examine the victim.
The incident took place at Shravan, a Red Cross-run shelter home in Rohtak. It is a centre for rehabilitation of mentally challenged adults.
The newly-formed board, led by a forensic science expert, will comprise three specialists in addition to technical experts.
A 20-year-old mentally challenged inmate was allegedly sodomised by the warden of the shelter home.
Incidentally, Shravan is situated nearby to another tainted shelter home Apna Ghar, in Sri Nagar Colony.
PGIMS medical superintendent Dr Ashok Kumar Chauhan said the medical examination of the victim will begin on Tuesday. A final report will be submitted to the police soon, he said.
Earlier, the warden of the shelter home was arrested after an FIR was lodged under Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
According to the complaint of sexual harassment submitted to the senior superintendent of police, the victim’s health deteriorated so rapidly after the molestation, that he had to be operated five times at a Delhi hospital.
The hospital’s doctors discovered that the boy was sexually harassed.
On Monday, police also videographed the victim’s statement.
