Clerics in north Pak ask NGOs to pack up

ISLAMABAD: Clerics in the Kohistan region of northern Pakistan have issued a "final edict" against NGOs operating in the area, describing their activities as 'haram' and demanding that authoritie­s immediatel­y revoke their noobjectio­n certificat­es. Over 150 clerics of the remote Kohistan district gathered at a mosque and vowed that they will not offer funeral prayers for people who continue to be beneficiar­ies of any NGO, Express Tribune reported.

‘China has no strategy to strangle India’

BEIJING: Even as Indian is keenly pushing ahead with its economic ties with energy-rich Myanmar, where China already has a marked presence, Beijing has said it “welcomes” competitio­n from Delhi in the region and does not have a strategy to “strangle” India. India, which shares a land border of more than 1,600 km with Myanmar, inked a slew of agreements with the government of President Thein Sein during PM Manmohan Singh's visit to China in May.

LONDON: It’s now official: Teenage girls in the UK are the biggest binge drinkers in Europe, an official report has revealed. Portugal, Estonia and Malta had the next highest figures. The UK Department of Health report showed that 55% of girls in Britain consumed five or more drinks on at least once a month.
