BJP led in 53 segments, Cong and INLD in 15 each

Results will have a bearing on assembly elections due in five months

The outcome of Lok Sabha election results in Haryana is certain to have a direct bearing on the forthcoming assembly elections in the state. While there is a lot of variance in the dynamics of Lok Sabha and assembly elections, the success rate achieved by the political parties in each assembly segment during the Lok Sabha polls can be measured as a broad indicator of the people’s mood.

With the assembly polls, as per the schedule, barely five months away, the assembly segment wise performance of each political party could prove significant in calibration of their future political manoeuvers.

BJP

The BJP, riding the NaMo wave, delivered one of its best performances ever in the state notching up seven seats out of the eight it contested. The party, which has just four MLAs in the 90-member Haryana assembly led in 53 assembly segments spread over eight Lok Sabha seats it contested.

The saffron party led in all the 27 assembly segments of Faridabad, Karnal and Ambala Lok Sabha (LS) constituencies. It led in six each assembly segments of Kurukshetra, Sonepat, BhiwaniMahendergarh, Gurgaon parliamentary constituencies. The party also tasted success in two segments – Bahadurgarh and Kosli- of Rohtak Lok Sabha constituency.

CONGRESS

The Congress, which formed the government after winning 40 assembly seats in 2009 assembly polls could only secure lead in 15 assembly segments in the 10 Lok Sabha seats it contested. In comparison, the party had led in 59 assembly segments in the 2009 LS polls.

of chief minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda. Its outing in Sonepat parliamentary constituency, also considered a Hooda stronghold, was below par as it could lead only in three assembly segments of Baroda, Kharkhauda and Gohana. The Congress led in two assembly segments each in BhiwaniMahendergarh (Tosham and Loharu) Kurukshetra (Pehowa and Guhla) parliamentary constituencies. In Sirsa LS seat, the Congress could secure lead from Tohana.

INLD

The INLD, the principal opposition group in the state assembly with 30 seats, too could get leads in 15 assembly segments of the 10 Lok Sabha seats it contested all alone.

The bulk of the leads came from Sirsa LS seat where the party emerged on top in seven assembly segments.

The INLD secured leads in three assembly segments each of Gurgaon (Punhana, Ferozepur Jhirka and Nuh) and Hisar (Uchana Kalan, Uklana and Narnaund) LS seats.

It could lead in one each assembly segment in Bhiwani-Mahendergarh (Badhra) and Kurukshetra (Kalayat) LS seats.

HJC

The BJP’s ally, the Haryana Janhit Congress, which won six seats in 2009 (later reduced to one after five le gislators switched sides to join the Congress) got leads in seven assembly segments in the two Lok Sabha seats it contested — Hisar and Sirsa.

It is quite ironic that HJC chief Kuldeep Bishnoi ended up on the losing side despite leading in six assembly segments of Hisar LS seats.
