A 20-year-old Delhi University student reportedly hanged herself to death in east Delhi and recorded the entire act on her mobile phone while naming her alleged stalkers, the police said on Saturday.

The incident took place in east Delhi’s Krishna Nagar on Tuesday night. In the video, the victim was seen crying while recording her suicide, police said.

She was also taking names of five neighbours who had been allegedly stalking and harassing her for a few months.

“My daughter was being stalked by our neighbours and their friends who often harassed her with abuses and obscene gestures. Among them were two brothers who live close-by and were troubling her with lewd remarks,” said her father.

The same people had beaten his wife and daughter in August last year after a complaint about the harassment to the families living in the neighbourhood, the father added.

The DU student was found hanging from the ceiling fan after her father came back home from work at around 11:45 pm on Tuesday night, said the police. The family called the cops and the woman was taken to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead on admission.

The deceased was pursuing her undergraduate studies in B.Com from Delhi University. She left a note saying the reason behind her suicide was recorded on her phone.

After initial investigation, the police had learnt that the 20-year-old was in depression since her fiancé of three years had recently called their marriage off since his demand of a car had not been met.

Based on that, a case of abetment to suicide had been registered and the fiancé had been detained.

However, when the cops saw the recorded suicide video, they filed a separate case of stalking and harassment against the five people whose names were mentioned.
