NEW DELHI/ISLAMABAD: A breakaway faction of the Pakistani Taliban that claimed responsibility for the Wagah suicide bombing Wednesday threatened to carry out attacks inside India.

Jamat- ul- Ahrar’s spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan said, “India is included in our next attack… I have already conveyed it to Modi... that if our suicide bombers can carry out attacks on this side of the border, they can easily do it on other side of the border in India.

“Brushing off the reported threat to Modi, minister of state for home Kiren Rijiju said in Delhi that the “Prime Minister was fully secured”.

NEW DELHI: Naming Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a target, a splinter group of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan ( TTP) has war ned of more attacks.

Ehsanullah Ehsan, spokesman of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan Jamaat Ahrar (TTP-JA) was quoted by Reuters: “I have already conveyed it to Modi ... that if our suicide bombers can carry out attacks on this side of the border, they can easily do it on other side of the border in India.”

Brushing off the reported threat to the PM, Minister of State for home Kiren Rijiju told reporters in New Delhi that the “Prime Minister was fully secured”.

Asked for a reaction, a top home ministry official told HT: “There is no reaction, we cannot react to each and everything someone says. We will do what is necessary.”

On Sunday, TTP-JA claimed responsibility for the suicide bombing on the Wagah border where at least 57 Pakistanis were killed during a popular flag-lowering ceremony.

Reports said the bomber tried to get as close as possible to the border in a possible attempt to cause casualties on the Indian side as well although Ehsan said that the Sunday attack was specifically aimed at the Pakistani military.

Ehsan had earlier tweeted: “You (Modi) are the killer of hundreds of Muslims. We wl (will) take the revenge of innocent people of Kashmir and Gugrat” (sic).

Ehsan’s group differs from the TTP on the geographical spread of their activity. While TTP focuses on war in the tribal areas on the Afghan border, TTP-JA seeks to attack countries around the region.
