Animators are in great demand today

- USHA ALBUQUERQUE

I have completed my 3D animation course with specialisation in character animation. I am a graduate in arts and am looking for a job in a production house. How much salary should I expect as a fresher in this field? I also want to know what qualifications I must have to start my own production house. Will an MBA help me? Please suggest which are the best options and the scope in this field.

— Rishi Singh Animation is a growing field that offers several career opportunities. Due to technological advances and the popularity of 3D animation and numerous applications that animation is used for, the industry is only expected to grow. Junior animators or trainees could get between `8,000 and `15,000 per month. With three to five years of experience, they can earn between `25,000 and `40,000. An experienced animator with a good portfolio can easily earn `50,000 to `60,000 per month. There is an increasing demand for animation jobs in India mainly for production work from foreign companies and domestic TV channels.

As the size of the global animation industry is quite large, good animation artists can also look for jobs abroad. Some of the top companies that hire students after animation are: Toonz Animation India, Pentamedia Graphics, Maya Entertainment, UTV Toonz, Silvertoon Studio, Mumbai etc. There is no specific eligibility to start your own production house. You need to have experience in your field and should be good at managing people. You can do a generalised MBA or a specialisation in entrepreneurship.
