2 get bail in cable operator suicide case

-

TARN TARAN: The court of the additional sessions judge on Thursday granted bail to two of the three accused in the Amritsar cable operator suicide case.

The bail applications of Sarabjit Singh Raju and Gurinderjit Singh Bubby came up for hearing before additional sessions judge SP Sood. The judge, after hearing the arguments of the defence and pros- ecution counsels, granted bail.

The judge directed the lower court, which would hear their case in Amritsar, to fix the bail amount that they would deposit before being set free from the Amritsar central jail, where they have been under detention since their arrest last month. The lower court is expected to fix the bail amount after receiving a copy of the order from Tarn Taran.

The third accused, Prithpal Singh Lalli, also under detention, is expected to move his bail application in a day or two.

The bail application of the three had come up for hearing on May 5 before the district and sessions court in Amritsar. However, sessions judge Gurbir Singh transferred the case to Tarn Taran on the grounds that he was present at the spot where cable operator Jaswinder Singh Jassi attempted suicide on March 28 during a meeting of TDSAT (Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal), held in a Amritsar hotel. Jassi, who died in hospital two days later, left behind a suicide note in which he had accused Raju, Lalli and Bubby of ruining his cable business and causing him financial losses.
