How to find peace in this troubled world

- Sant Rajinder Singh innervoice@hindustantimes.com

Since the dawn of time, humanity has faced challenges. There have always been natural disasters, health epidemics and criminal activities. The Internet, social media, television, radio, emails and text messages have brought the world together. On any given day, we hear of natural calamities or people dying due to disease, accidents and criminal activities.

Those who are sensitive feel the pain of the suffering that other people experience. How can we find peace when there is so much sorrow in the world? How can we find peace when news reports on tragedies from around the world pour in every day? How then can we live without being fearful? Meditation provides a solution. While it does not eliminate the problems of the world, it elevates us to a place of peace and serenity that is untouched by fear.In meditation, we transcend to the place where our soul has its roots, in the Divine. Whether we call the Divine Creator, God, or any other name, it is an ocean of love, immortality, bliss, and peace. Our soul comprises the same essence. Our soul is a spark of the Divine, and is also filled with peace, love, and immortality. When we transcend the awareness of the outer world and enter this inner realm, we are at peace.

If we spend some time daily within the silence of our soul, through meditation, we will be connected with bliss. Then the outer circumstances of life will not affect us. We can learn to find a still centre, which will provide us with happiness despite the outer variations of life. While we cannot eliminate global catastrophes and pain in the world, we can bring solace and understanding to help others accept the plight of the world.
