Most DU admissions to be online this year

-

NEW DELHI: The Delhi University will open direct admissions for only a limited period of time, conducting most of the process online this year.

The 23-member admission committee has made this proposal. It will need ratification by the vicechancellor for implementation.

The committee comprises the dean students’ welfare, DU registrar, principals of a few colleges and academic and executive council members among others.

“The admission process brings with it a lot of pressure on the varsity officials. Hence, it was decided that the offline process will not be done away with. Admissions will be conducted both offline and online. However, the paper registration will take place at few centers and for a few days only,” said Nachiketa Singh, a member of the committee. The registration process usually takes place 15 days and last year there were 18 centres where the students could fill up the optical mark registration (OMR) forms at different areas of Delhi.

Apart from this there could also be a centralised fitness test for students taking admission under the sports quota.

The fitness test in all likely will take place in the university itself instead of individual colleges. If a students passes the test then she/he will qualify for the trials in various sports.

“To ensure transparency all the trials for sports and extracurricular activities will be videographed and also uploaded on the college website,” said Singh.

Though the dates of the registration process are still not known, the admission dates will be announced soon.
