JALANDHAR: The finance and contract committee (F&CC) cleared projects worth `26 crore during a municipal corporation meeting on Saturday. Out of the 84 proposals pitched before the committee, 77 were passed, six have been put on hold and one has been cancelled.

The agenda of the house had total 86 proposals, which were discussed during the general house meeting on Friday. Out of the 86 proposals, four were dropped by the house including the proposal of introducing a cattle cess as the members of the House failed to reach a consensus over the matter.

The F&CC meeting added two new proposals to the remaining 82 proposals that were then put before the core committee comprising of the mayor, municipal commissioner, senior deputy mayor, deputy mayor and councillors Bhagwant Prabhakar and Ravi Mahendru.

During the meeting, proposal number 139 pertaining to the planting of bottle palm and beautification of the road from PAP Chowk to Khalsa College and Nehru Garden was stalled. The cost of the project was revised upwards to `23 lakh from `18 lakh and the members of F&CC dropped this project citing unwanted expenditure.

Project proposal bearing serial numbers 137, 138 and 136 which were related to the build- ing and roads department have been put on hold for the time being.

Proposal 165 aimed to carry out road repair work from Chik-Chik Chowk to Gurudwara Road. The F&CC concluded that the road is still in good condition and minor repair work will solve the purpose.

Proposal 146 pertained to building of the road from Hotel Reagent Park to Jhandiwala Peer. The committee members concluded that there are many illegal encroachments on this stretch which need to be removed before starting the work.

The commissioner and joint commissioner were asked to take a note of the situation and remove the encroachments to start the work.

One more project regarding the installation of a motor pump at Wariana dump has been put on hold. The aim was to install a pump at Wariana to pump out water being generated at the dump.

However, F&CC members concluded that drainage of this water will lead to a new problem and hence the project has been put on hold till proper sewerage and drainage system is brought in place around the dumping site.
