LUDHIANA: A 27-year-old man was killed in broad daylight in his car when the alleged paramour of his married sister repeatedly smashed his head with a brick. The victim’s mother was also attacked and was left injured.

The incident took place around 5.30pm when victim Harish Arora and his mother Renu were returning after a failed meeting with the accused – Manoj Kumar – over the issue of Harish’s married sister having developed an illicit relationship with Manoj. Harish, a resident of Dugri, was due to get married next month.

The police said the sister of the victim, Rachna, who was married for 14 years, had recently developed illicit relations with Manoj, resident of Chhawni Mohalla, following which she had left her husband’s house.

The police said Manoj’s mother had asked Renu and Harish to come to their house to discuss the matter. However, a verbal spat broke out between Manoj and Harish after which Harish and Renu left the place

However, Manoj, along with his friends, followed the vehicle and allegedly attacked the car near the petrol pump of Salem Tabri.

A brick allegedly thrown by Manoj broke the windshield of the car and smashed the head of Harish. Later, Renu took Harish to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital with the help of bystanders where doctors declared him brought dead.

Salem Tabri SHO Maninder Bedi said “A case under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC had been lodged against nine people, including Manoj and Rachna.”
