JALANDHAR: With the results for the Joint Entrance Test (JET) yet to be declared, students wanting to pursue diploma courses from Class 11 onwards are in a dilemma as schools in the district have started taking admissions for the class. Students fear that if the results are delayed further they would not have the option of joining Class 11, even in a normal course, in case they fail to clear the JET.

“We are confused whether we will get admission in diploma or whether we would opt for normal Class 11,” said Tarun Kalia, a Class 10 student, who appeared for JET, adding that that schools have started admitting for the Class 11 despite the fact that Class 10 results have not yet been declared.

“The students are worried as the result have never been so late. They are in dilemma whether they will get admissions in diploma or should go ahead with school admissions. We are worried this may not lead to empty seats in diploma” said Surjit Lal, district coordinator for JET.

“The government provided the notification for the test a little late. The Punjab School Education Board Class 10 exams also got delayed due to which students were not able to prepare for the JET exam,” he added.

Sources in the department said the results were being delayed due to PSBTEIT’s leniency and this would lead to seats not getting filled. However, Dr Navneet Walia, registrar-cum-controller of exams, PSBTEIT said result would be out next week. “The results were delayed as the semester exams for diploma courses were going. PSEB Class 10 examinations ended late on April 6. We are not late technically,” Walia said.
