SIRSA: The state government will honour Sirsa chief medical officer Dr SK Nain for refusing to accept a bribe `10 lakh from a Tohana-based doctor accused for carrying out pre-natal sex determination.

State health minister Anil Vij on Saturday tweeted: “Sirsa CMO Dr. Surinder Kumar Nain will be Honoured by health department for refusing to accept bribe of 10 Lacs from NDPT accused doctor.”

The Sirsa police had arrested Dr Rajesh Goyal, an ultrasound centre owner, on May 7 while he was trying to bribe Nain for seeking favorable statement in a case of illegal sex determination registered against him in January this year. Police had also recovered `5 lakh from the doctor’s car, which he had planned to give as bribe to Nain, who was offered a sum of `10 lakh by Goyal.

The accused doctor was sent to the judicial custody on Friday.

Sur prisingly, on Friday Bhupender Sharma, inspector in state vigilance bureau from Hisar, said Goyal had approached them with a complaint that Nain was accepting the bribe through a middleman. According to Sharma, state vigilance bureau had also planned a trap to arrest the CMO on Wednesday, but the plan was dropped for the want of direct evidence against Dr Nain.

He also mentioned that which `5 lakh recovered by the police from Goyal’s car were the same which were kept for the trap.

Regarding the confusion Shenvi said, “It is true that Dr Goyal had approached vigilance bureau in the recent days, but CMO Sirsa also approached us on Thursday. So we are investigating the matter and an additional DSP is looking after the investigation.”
