PM meets Subhash Chandra Bose’s kin, promises them full support
KO L KATA : Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the family of Subhas Chandra Bose during his visit to the city, and again assured them of his support to their demand of declassifying all the Netaji files.
The demand for declassifying the files has intensified following revelations that successive Congress governments at the Centre snooped on Bose family members between 1948 and 1968.
“We told him that we want full declassification of files related to Netaji. The Prime Minister told us that he thinks it is a national duty,” said Chittopriyo Bose, grandson of Satish Chandra Bose, older brother of Subhas Chandra.
Other family members echoed his words and said they hoped the files would be declassified quickly.
During his recent trip to Germany, Modi also met Surya Bose, a grandnephew of Netaji. During that meeting, Bose family members claimed that the PM promised them to help in their cause and called all the family members to meet him in Delhi to discuss the issue.
A part of the family has already demanded a special investigation team (SIT) be formed under a sitting Supreme Court judge to probe the freedom fighter’s last days.
“The SIT should submit its report to Parliament and if there is any conclusive evidence regarding Netaji, it should be made public,” said a member of the family.
Several commissions have been formed after Independence to probe Netaji’s mysterious disappearance after a plane crash in 1945 but doubts persist. The last investigation was headed by retired SC judge Manoj Mukherjee but his findings were never made public.
