BBSBEC - An SGPC INSTITUTE WITH UNPARALLELED STRENGTHS

Technical education, imparted at various levels, contributes a major share to the overall education system and plays a pivotal role in the social and economic development of our nation. Technical education caters to various aspects of technological development and economic progress. There has been unprecedented rise in the number of technical institutes in the country in general, and in the State of Punjab in particular in the last two decades, which gave the much-needed impetus to the growth of technical education. The growth of technical education in the State of Punjab in the 20th Century was very slow and the state was lagging far behind of other states in terms of degree level engineering institutes and providing quality education. Before the opening of BBSBEC there were only six engineering institutes at UG/PG level, and the aspiring students were compelled to move out of the state to fulfill their dreams. To contribute to the development of technical education and to uplift the regional students, who were deprived of opportunities as compared to their counterparts in other states, the SGPC took the initiative to establish Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Engineering College on the sacred land of Fatehgarh Sahib in 1993. Under the able guidance of a great visionary, Jathedar Avtar Singh, President SGPC and College Trust, today BBSBEC is reckoned as one of the leading institutes in North India, and it has earned name & fame not only in the country but the world over in imparting high quality technical education. It was the first institute under PTU to get its courses accredited by the NBA - National Board of Accreditation of AICTE, the hallmark of quality education, infrastructure, facilities, amenities etc. Presently the institute is running 7 UG Courses (B.Tech. - CSE, ECE, ME, IT, EE, CIVIL, AE) and 8 PG Courses ( M.Tech. - CSE, E-Security, ECE, Power Systems, Instrumentation & Control, Mechatronics & Robotics, CAD/CAM and MBA). Though in the face of fast changing technological scenario it is not easy to maintain high standard of education, especially of technical education, yet the SGPC, a socio-religious body, has ensured that BBSBEC, under the control of its Trust, maintains imparting high quality technical education to its students. The huge, unparalleled and state-of-theart infrastructure developed on 90 acre land in 22 years, and the highly qualified, experienced and dedicated faculty is the backbone of this college. The college - a top-class Sikh minority institute, is located in a pollution-free environment and serene atmosphere highly conducive to academics. The college has been a front runner in terms of providing excellent facilities and amenities in general and high quality technical education in particular.
