First "Autonomous College" of Punjab "Mata Gujri College, Fatehgarh Sahib"

-Prof Bikramjit Singh* Mata Gujri College is the first college to attain Autonomy in Punjab. The UGC conferred status of "Autonomous College" to Mata Gujri College from the session 2010-11 Spread over more than 25 acres of lush green Land having Eco friendly, peaceful and serene environment, the college was established in 1957 by revered lady Bibi Gurbachan Kaur ji Mann on pious land of Fatehgarh Sahib. Mata Gujri College is affiliated to Punjabi University, Patiala. The college is under the overall management of the S.G.P.C. Sri Amritsar since 1964 which is running more than 100 educational institutes throughout India including Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University at Fatehgarh Sahib, Medical Colleges, Engineering Colleges, Polytechnic Colleges, Public Schools and Government Aided Schools also. The College has made rapid growth under the SGPC president Jathedar Avtar Singh, the President, College Governing Body. The college has made gigantic strides in various spheres under his dynamic and able guidance. A well known philanthropist and eminent social worker S Ranjit Singh Libra is Honorary Secretary of the College Governing Body.The college is making rapid strides in every field under the stewardship of the College Director Principal Dr Jatinder Singh Sidhu, with the cooperation of dedicated staff of the college. The College is providing education in multi-disciplines, information technology and value system. Panth Rattan Jathedar Gurcharan Singh Tohra who served for more than 25 years as president of the SGPC and Dr Gurmohan Singh Walia who served as a principal of this college for 15 years made their tireless efforts to provide direction and put the college on the right track of progress. The College was Accredited 'A' Grade by NAAC in 2004.The College got status of "College with Potential for Excellence" by the UGC in the year 2010. To keep pace with the ever changing global scenario, new courses are introduced every year. B.Com. (Hons.), BA.(Honours School) in English ,BA.(Honours School) in Economics and M. A. (Psychology) will be introduced in the college from the session 2015-16. There is no best which cannot be bettered, the SGPC has brought its educational institutions at par with the best in the world and one of the steps being taken for this purpose is collaboration with reputed international universities and educational institutions like Cambridge, Wintec, Sheridan, for mutual cooperation and exchange. The college provides the best possible facilities to the young students in order to make them successful professionals and perfect citizens. The college provides a varied selection of academic by systematically reviewing classroom facilities, equipment and curriculum.
