SRI GURU GRANTH SAHIB WORLD UNIVERSITY AT FATEHGARH SAHIB
Articulating the aspirations of entire Sikh and Punjabi Community, the setting up of Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University at Fatehgarh Sahib was announced by Sardar Parkash Singh Badal (present Chief Minister of Punjab) to mark the fourth centenary celebrations of the compilation and first installation of Sri Adi (Guru) Granth Sahib in 2004. RICH LEGACY The University was established by SGPC under Punjab State Act 20/2008, which is a religious, humanitarian and charitable organization. It has set up about 40 institutions of higher learning, including a Medical College, Engineering Institutes, Professional Institutes and Schools in Punjab and other states of India. The University embodies the fortitude of excellence in research, teaching, innovation and creativity. The University endeavours to assure quality in education and research with an applied approach. In the present contemporary world, the Vision of University is more important to preserve rich culture and traditions along with advancement of knowledge. ECLECTIC APPROACH TO EDUCATION The University dutifully provides state-of-the art infrastructure and up to date curriculum to create conducive milieu leading to better research and learning experience. The curriculum is based on real-world industry experience, collaborative research and hands-on lab courses. High Powered Advisory Committee of Industrialists and Chief Operating officers of reputed companies has been established to provide their insights into the curriculum and making the students industry ready. With the mandate to focus on intensive study, research and training, the studies include areas of world religions, arts & humanities, social sciences, pure and applied sciences, engineering sciences, medical sciences, Commerce and Management and Sports. To convert students into 'Global Professionals', the University is also focusing on Emerging Technologies including Biotechnology, Nanotechnology, Food Processing Technology, Environment Science, Agriculture Science etc. The students are provided with the opportunities of internships, community service, on-campus jobs and research opportunities. The students of this University are doing research in international establishments like Albama University (USA), Xi'an Jiaotong (China), National Institute of Material Science (Japan), DRDO, CSIO, IITs, BARC etc. to name a few. Plethora of avenues is provided to learn and practice skills for knowledge enhancement. Highly Qualified, Dedicated and Dynamic faculty is the key strength of University. The university is fortunate to have many renowned Academicians for imparting quality education to students. The University has world class infrastructure for the class room teaching, research labs, sports and other extracurricular activities. Apart from these, full-fledged gymnasium, medical assistance, and a resourceful library with ejournals and internet lab is available for the students. Apart from academics, special impetus is being given to overall personality development of students by organizing various sports, curricular and cultural events at state and national level. International Education Standards have been established for the global development of students. University has signed MOUs with renowned International Universities like Cambridge (UK), Xi'an Jiaotong University (China) and Rovira I Virgili University, Spain. The Guest faculty from renowned Universities of world, like Massey University (New Zealand) and University of Cambridge (UK) etc. visit our campus to teach students. SERVING A CAUSE The University mechanizes to harmonize the moral values laid out in holy scriptures along with the development in emerging technologies. It has developed a curriculum where stress is given on Human, Moral & Ethical Values, Human Rights, Environmental issues, Empowerment of the downtrodden and concept of Universal brotherhood, in order to transform the raw young students into enlightened human beings & responsible citizens. Located in the most holy city of Punjab, the University is committed to the development of holistic disposition. University provides various scholarships for needy and meritorious students. Ten percent students in each course are being provided waiver in their tuition fee, and Sikh Girl students of Kashmir are offered totally free education including meals and residence. Seminars and Religious teachings are provided to the students to keep them connected with the roots and culture of our country and also to train them to compete with confidence in globalised environment. TRAINING AND PLACEMENT The University has a dedicated Training and Placement Cell to collaborate industry and academia. To make the students industry-ready, regular training sessions are being conducted which include the activities like GDs, Role Plays, Mock Interviews, Reasoning Tests, Industrial visits etc. The students' curriculum is based on the pattern of various Competitive exams and they are provided extra mentoring for the preparation. Practical training of the students is also a part of curriculum so as to provide them the real time exposure. Campus drives are held regularly and in the last years, many reputed companies like Axis Bank, Deutsche Bank, Tata Docomo, Mozilla, Accrete Globus Technology, Catalyst One and Impinge Solution etc. have selected our budding professionals to fill their manpower needs. CONQUERING NEW HORIZONS AND FUTURE PROSPECTS The University draws from the legacy of SGPC (its parent body) and the ideology of its Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Gurmohan Singh who is the fulcrum of ideas and intelligence. Under his dynamic leadership, University has witnessed sea change in its operating efficiencies and overall development. The University has constructed Girls hostel with world class infrastructure & facilities, and Bhai Gurdas Academic Block-II is under construction. With the support of our benefactors, University will draw enormous potential for the future through aesthetic and industry oriented research, and enhance students' grey cells, thereby propelling India to become future's superpower.
