JATHEDAR AVTAR SINGH MAKKAR PRESIDENT SGPC: PAST AND PRESENT

F irst Chancellor of Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib : Member, Core Committee, Shiromani Akali Dal: literate in Punjabi, Hindi and English; Kirtan-lover; Guru glanced personality; Guru-blessed to be amiable to one and all is Jathedar Avtar Singh Makkar, for the fifth time adorned at the honourable seat of President, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, Sri Amritsar. The honourable personality was born on 3rd January 1943 in the house of S. Harbans Singh Ji and mother Kishan Kaur at Sargodha (now Pakistan). After the patition, his family stayed first at Mustafabad, then in Roorkee and then settled in Jagraon. The family environment of Sikh values contributed a lot towards moulding him in Sikh ways of life. After his primary education, he joined the Khalsa National High School, Ludhiana for higher education. During his school education he got scholarship in the Dharmik Examination conducted by Dharam Parchar Committee, a wing of Shiromani committee. He passed F.Sc. (non-medical) from Gujranwala Guru Nanak College, Ludhiana and got service in Life Insurance Company of India.
