BLOCK TRAFFIC ON MEHATPUR BYPASS ROAD FOR THREE HOURS; RAISE SLOGANS AGAINST GOVERNMENT, LOCAL AUTHORITIES

NAKODAR: Protesting against stagnant sewer water in a grain market here, the residents on Friday blocked the traffic on the Mehatpur Bypass Road for three hours. The protestors raised slogans against the SADBJP government and the local authorities.

“Poor maintenance of sewerage system has been causing problem for the residents for the last few months,” laments Baldev Raj Gaba, a BJP leader, who says he has been forced to raise slogans against his government as the authorities concerned have failed to solve the problem.

Mannu Bhalla, a resident, said he had lodged a complaint in this regard with the Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board (PSWSSB) in the first week of June, but to no avail.

Meanwhile, PSWSSB junior engineer Sandeep Kumar, who reached the spot, said the problem could not be resolved due to non-availability of machinery. He added that a jet machine from Phagwara would be hired to clear the blocked system soon.

The Nagar council president, Aditya Bhatara, also visited the spot and assured full support to the residents.

The market committee secretary, Tejinder Kumar, meanwhile, said the government had de-notified Nakodar grain market thus they could not spend money on the same, adding that they had written to the government to declare the area as a sub yard.
