JALANDHAR: The board of governors (BoG) of DAV College Management Committee (CMC) recently demanded resignation of DAV Institute of Engineering and Technology (DAVIET) principal AL Sangal from his post, following controversies involving Sangal.

Sources said the move came following controversy that Sangal was holding two positions at two different work stations at the same time. Sources added Sangal was serving as the principal at DAVIET and was also a registrar at Dr BR Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar.

The sources said recently, NIT Jalandhar authorities had asked the DAVCMC to clear Sangal’s status as he was on a five-year-leave from the institute and meanwhile joined as the principal at DAVIET. As per norms Sangal cannot join a private engineering college while being an employee at the NIT. The appointment of Sangal as the principal was confirmed in January 2014.

In this regard, the members of DAVIET staff association had also served a legal notice to ministry of human resource and development (MHRD); chief vigilance officer, department of higher and secondary education; Jalandhar NIT BoG; BoG chairman and DAV College management committee last year in November.

Another allegation levelled against Sangal is of corruption. Notably a case pertaining to an old complaint that Sangal cleared the pending payment of authorised paint dealer, proprie- tor of Govind Agencies by taking bribe.

Adding to the list is a case against Sangal for his involvement in a placement scam. As many as 35 students were coned by the bogus company by giving them placements and taking security money from them. The parents and students had lodged a complaint against the principal and placement officer for allowing fake company to take placements as it was their responsibility to check the credentials of the company before inviting it in the campus.

However, RS Sharma, general secretary, DAVCMC, Delhi, who presided over the BoG meeting, denied demanding Sangal’s resignation and said that he submitted his resignation on his own and gave family matter as a reason. “The committee has not asked for his resignation rather he himself resigned during the meeting,” he said, adding that it was imperative that the post has to be advertised now after which the new principal would be appointed.
