GURGAON: Unidentified men fled with an automated teller machine (ATM) installed at Hero Honda Chowk near Sector 10A on Friday.

The HDFC bank ATM, located on the service lane between Hero Honda Chowk on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway and Khandsa Road, had `91,000.

According to the Gurgaon police, the accused also stole the CCTV camera that was installed in the ATM.

However, the police are trying to retrieve the CCTV footage from the bank.

Assistant commissioner of police (crime) Rajesh Kumar said the security guard deployed at the ATM on Friday had locked the shutters and gone to sleep.

When he returned, he found the locks broken, following which he informed the nearby police station.

A similar robbery attempt had taken place in the past at the same ATM. A case has been registered against unidentified persons, the police said.

The Gurgaon police have registered several such ATM robbery cases in the past. In most cases, the police say, the security guards were suspected to be involved.

Apart from ATM robberies, the police have also been registering many cases of fraud wherein complainants alleged that their ATM/debit cards were switched and money was withdrawn from their accounts.

Meanwhile, more than 60 police officials of Gurgaon attended a day- long workshop at a private university in the city about the rising number of cyber crime cases in Gurgaon.
