SRINAGAR: ISIS flags reappeared in Srinagar after clashes broke out on Friday between a group of youth and security forces in Srinagar.

The clashes followed the special prayers offered across the Valley on the last Friday of Holy month of Ramadan. The prayers were led by Valley’s head cleric and moderate separatist Mirwaaiz Umar Farooq. According to eyewitnesses, some group of youth waved the controversial flags of Pakistan, Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) and ISIS. The youth also raised pro-separatist and pro-Pakistani slogans. The flags have been making repeated appearance in the Valley since the past one year. The police, however, say there is no presence of groups like Taliban or ISIS in the Valley. The police had to fire tear gas shells to quell the protests. The officials said that the youth also set afire the tricolor.

BJP leader Ravinder Raina on Friday demanded shootat- sight orders against the agitators who were waving the Pakistani and ISIS flags in the Valley. “The Jammu and Kashmir government must take action against such elements and all these pro-Pakistani elements must be arrested. In fact, I believe that shoot-at-sight orders must be issued against such people,” Raina said. Pakistani and ISIS flags were reportedly waved on Friday in Srinagar after the Juma-tul-Wida namaz, which is held on the last Friday of the holy month of Ramzan.

The city also witnessed a clash between police and protesters, where the former resorted to tear gas shelling in order to disperse the stone-pelting agitators.
