NEW DELHI: Two students of a government school in outer Delhi suffered burns on Thursday after coming in contact with a live wire that was hanging loose in their school premises.

The incident took place at the Government Girls Senior Secondary School at Shahbad Diary in outer Delhi. The two injured students were identified as Sanju and Muskan, both studying in Class 8 H.

Sources said Sanju suffered burns on her hand and was at home after being treated. Muskan, on the other hand, had to be admitted to Ambedkar Hospital for treatment.

According to the parents of the kids, who were informed about the incident by other students of the class, the live wire had snapped and hit the window of Class 8-H.

Muskan tried to remove the wire from the window and got the shock before falling on the ground. Seeing this, Sanju rushed to help her friend Muskan but received a minor shock from the hanging wire too. None of the injuries were serious in nature.

Thursday’s accident, however, is not the first time of such an event happening in a Delhi school.

In 2009, five students were killed and 33 others were injured in a gover nment school at Khajuri Khas after a stampede. The stampede was caused while students were vacating their classrooms after rumors of rainwater accumulated in the school premises was carrying electricity.

An FIR has been registered after Friday’s incident. “A case of negligence has been registered against unknown person,” said a police officer.

The school was shut on Thursday after the incident and did not reopen on Friday.
