Bogus billing: Excise, taxation dept raids firm in Jalandhar

JALANDHAR: A team of the excise and taxation department on Friday carried out a raid on the premises of a firm at Baba Budha Ji Nagar, suspecting it of making bogus bills to the tune of `14 crore over the past one year.

During the raid, it was found that the firm, Durga Traders, had taken the premises on rent.

Shopkeeper­s in the locality were not aware about its existence. The raiding team comprised Madhusudan Sharma, excise and taxation officer, and two inspectors.

“During the scrutiny, we found that purchases of the firm were from defaulter dealers, which were found suspicious and we immediatel­y proceeded into the matter,” Sharma said.

sioner, said the team is investigat­ing the matter.

As why there is delay in finding these bogus firms, he said, “Officials of the department should have a regular check on such dealers. They should scrutinise the returns submitted by the dealers.”

“Once we are done with the investigat­ion, required action will be taken,” he added.

Rajkumar Sharma, president, Jalandhar Traders and Manufactur­ers Associatio­n, said no action has been taken against those whose premises were raided in the past fourfive years.
