PATIALA: Even after three months, the six-member special investigation team (SIT), which was formed to probe murder of SAD district woman wing president Jaspal Kaur Dharni and her son, has failed to submit its report.

The SIT was formed by inspector general Paramjit Singh, as the media has raised questions over police’s theory in which it claimed that driver of Dharni had murdered her to steal her car. The bodies of Dharni, 48, and Ajit Singh, 23, were recovered in a decomposed state on April 21. During investigation, the police claimed that her driver identified as Bakhtawar Singh had allegedly murdered the mother-son duo.

The police claimed that the accused first kidnapped Dharni on April 9 and then her son on April 10. Trashing the police theory, Dharni’s family members and Bholath MLA Jagir Kaur demanded formation of the SIT, following which chief minister Parkash Singh Badal order to form the team.

The SIT had interacted with the family members and informally questioned them over their suspicion. DIG Balkar Singh, he admitted that SIT needs some more time to finalise its report. “We have probed from different angles, but so far nothing concrete has come forward,” he said.

WHAT POLICE THEORY SAYS The accused, Bakhtawar, first strangulated Dharni on her way to Patiala after Dhuri bypoll and then threw her body in Bhakra mainline canal on April 9.

The driver then allegedly murdered Ajit on April 10 and dumped his body in one of the bathroom of Dharni’s residence and locked the house from outside. Dharni had close association with Jagir kaur, who played a vital role in promotion of Dharni from a simple worker to SAD’s district women wing president.
