‘Bawaria gang’ strikes at Ambala, decamps with cash, jewellery

AMBALA: Armed robbers allegedly decamped with cash and valuables worth rupees lakh after looting two houses near Khuda village in two separate incidents on the outskirts of cantonment on Friday night.

Police sources said the robbers were six in number.

Locals said five persons have been injured and two seriously injured have been referred to PGIMR in Chandigarh.

They said in the first incident, the robbers knocked at one Suresh Yadav’s house and when he opened the door, they injured him with a rod and also hit his son Rohit and wife Darshana who had woke up after the commotion.

Residents said they took away `25,000 in cash and jewellery that Darshana was wearing, adding that they escaped after bolting the house from outside.

Yadav and Rohit have been admitted to Cantt civil hospital.

In second incident, the group with similar modus operandi struck at the residence of armyman Surjit Singh in the upcoming township Harman City and decamped with cash and ornaments running into lakh.

The sources said they injured his son Parminder Singh who had opened the door, his wife Nachhitar Kaur and his daughter Rajinder Kaur.

Seriously injured Par minder and Nachhitar have been referred to PGIMR in Chandigarh, adding that Surjit is posted outside Ambala.

The locals said the family had recently shifted and the renovation work was in progress and large amount was believed to be in the house.

On infor mation, a police team led by SHO Mahesh Nagar reached the spot and a dog squad and forensic expert were also pressed into service.

Assistant commission­er of police (ACP) Jagdeep Doon said eight police teams have been constitute­d to nab the burglars, adding that they suspected to belong to some Bawaria group.
