Two trafficked minor girls rescued from north Delhi homes

NEW DELHI: The crime branch of the Delhi police on Friday rescued two minor girls who were reportedly brought to Delhi from West Bengal by a man who promised them a job in the Capital. The girls, aged 14 and 17 years, were forced to work as domestic helps in Vijay Nagar and Shalimar Bagh in north Delhi, the police said.

According to the police, the girls were brought to Delhi from Falakata, a small town in West Bengal’s northern district of Alipurduar, by a man named Bhagada Kshetri, who lured them to the Capital with the promise of a good job and education. The girls, however, were employed in household, in Delhi and made to work long hours without proper meals, police said.

A case regarding this has already been registered in Falakata. “We received informatio­n about the girls working as domestic helps in the area, following which a raid was conducted and they were rescued. We have informed the police station concer ned in West Bengal about the matter and have also informed the brother of the girls, Babu Lal in West Bengal. The girls have now been sent to Nirmal Chhaya, a rescue home for women run by the Delhi government, and will be produced before the CWC tomorrow,” police said.

The police are now on the lookout for their employer who allegedly trafficked the girls from West Bengal. The investigat­ion in the matter is on, police said.
