NEW DELHI: A day after a 19-yearold girl was stabbed to death in Anand Parbat area of the Capital, the Delhi government has sought a detailed report from Delhi police commissioner BS Bassi within two days.

Delhi’s home minister Satyendar Jain has written to Bassi asking him why no FIR was registered earlier by the Delhi police, despite repeated complaints of harassment by the victim.

The AAP government has also ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident and has asked the district magistrate to submit a report at the earliest.

The victim was on Thursday stabbed to death allegedly by two brothers after she protested their verbal abuse, when she was returning home from a market in central Delhi.

Jain said that the police ‘inaction’ failed to provide security to the girl, who died after being stabbed multiple times. The duo had been allegedly stalking her since a long time.

In his letter, Jain also asked the police about any change in the national capital after the December 16 gangrape case in 2012.

“The family of the deceased girl had filed numerous complaints against accused Jai Prakash since 2013 with the local police alleging that he used to stalk the deceased and traumatise her but no FIR was registered by the police,” Jain claimed.

The minister has also asked why no FIR was registered by the Delhi police despite past complaints lodged by the family of the girl. This matter should be examined closely with detailed scrutiny from vigilance and criminal angle, he said.

“It is beyond comprehension that a crime has been perpetuated in the capital city despite prior complaints. Delhi police in a way abetted the crime by their inaction,” reads the letter.

Jain also said that the detailed scrutiny should also include identification and fixing of responsibility for lapses of involved police personnel and officers in handling past complaints lodged by the family.
