MCJ starts cleaning sewerage with super-sucker machine
JALANDHAR: Gearing up for the monsoon, the Jalandhar Municipal Corporation (MC) on Tuesday started cleaning of sewerages with super-sucker machine in Danishmanda and Basti Sheikh localities of the city. The machine is equipped with the latest technology and CCTV cameras.
Officials said considering the threat of water-borne diseases from sewer overflow the MC has decided to clean old sewerages, which were not cleaned properly in the past several years.
The civic body arranged the machine after roping in private players. Mayor Sunil Jyoti and MC commissioner Gurpreet Singh Khehra along with the operation and maintenance cell team inspected the working of the machine at Danishmanda.
Lakhwinder Singh, superintending engineer, MC’s operation and maintenance cell, said, “The machine will clear sewerages that have not been cleaned for years. We have given the contract to a Mohali-based firm to do the cleaning job in some of the most affected localities. The company will take two to three months to clean these sewerages.”
Singh further said the machine is fitted on a special truck worth ` 30 crore which also a set of water sucker and generator. It is equipped with a six-inch wide pipe that will suck the waste.
