CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana high court on Tuesday stayed the result declared by the Haryana government for posts of 9,000 junior basic teachers (JBTs) selected on the advertisement issued in 2012.

The high court bench of justice Amit Rawal order came on a bunch of petitions filed by those candidates who were in the category of waiting list as per a previous list prepared by the government.

In the result declared recently, there are over 1,000 such candidates who qualified mandatory Haryana teachers eligibility test (HTET) for the post in 2013, were considered.

The petitioners have submitted that they were in the waiting list and had been waiting for over one year now for the postings but those who were not even eligible at the time of December 2012 advertisement, had been declared selected.

The petitioners have also challenged the government submissions in the court in an earlier case, where the government had told the court that it would consider those candidates for thw recruitment, who had qualified the HTET in 2013.

The high court has sought the government response by August 3.
