FIR against Haryana MLA for threatening witness
FARIDABAD: Sitting Congress legislator from Palwal Karan Singh Dalal and a former senior police officer are among 17 people booked for allegedly threatening a witness in an eight-year-old corruption case.
The case relates to one Ashok Kumar, who was witness in a corruption case involving a police officer who was allegedly caught red-handed accepting money from him in 2007.
Kumar, who was then a resident of Krishna colony in Palwal, alleged that the police had put pressure on him to withdraw his name as witness. He had said the police harassed him at the instance of Dalal and the sons of former MLA Raghuveer Singh Tewatia.
The police said a case was registered against Dalal, former DSP of Palwal Hukum Singh (he retired as SP), two sons of Tewatia and others on the high court’s directions. Tewatia’s sons were booked for calling Kumar to their residence and assaulting him. “We registered a case under Section 323, 506, 384 and 120(B) of IPC against 17 people, including Karan Singh Dalal, on Sunday evening,” said the SHO of Camp police, Jitender Singh.
Kumar told HT that he got one Jitender Chauhan, then in charge of the Alawalpur police chowki in Palwal, caught red-handed while accepting bribe from him.
“I fled Palwal due to threats and live in Faridabad. Whenever I used to appear in court, Chauhan would harass me and put pressure on me to withdraw from the case or turn hostile,” Kumar said, adding, “I brought this issue to the notice of the court, which ordered security for me whenever I am Palwal”.
