HC grants exemption to two Kerala girls
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala high court on Tuesday granted conditional exemption to two Muslim girls from the new dress code introduced by the CBSE for all-India medical test scheduled for July 25.
While allowing the girls to wear purdah/headgear, the court asked them to appear before a woman invigilator at least halfan-hour before the examination for a thorough check.
The woman invigilator can also do a body search if she found any suspicious activities from the two.
The court also made it clear that exemption was only meant for these two girls.
The t wo , hailing from Malappuram and Palakkad districts (north Kerala), had moved the court saying that if they stick to the new dress code they won’t be able to attend the examination. However the CBSE insisted that the dress code was meant to stop malpractices and not to hurt religious sentiments of any community.
Earlier many Muslim organisations had criticised the dress code saying it violated religious freedom of the community.
On June 16, the SC had annulled the AIPMT after widespread irregularities were detected during the examination. After this, CBSE was forced to introduce a common dress code for all students.
