Court issues notices to Lalit Modi, wife Meenal, others
JAIPUR: A Jaipur court on Tuesday issued notices to former IPL chief Lalit Modi, his wife Meenal Modi, Sajjan Kumar Modi and Satya Narayan Singh Rohar -both directors in Anand Heritage Hotels Pvt. Ltd. -- in a case related to purchase of two havelis in the Amer area of Jaipur.
The court has ordered the publishing of notices in newspapers since Lalit Modi is a fugitive and the address of the company was fake.
The orders were given while hearing a revision petition by Sandeep Bhadra, district presi- dent of Nagrik Morcha, a civil society organisation. Bhadra had filed a case in 2007 requesting the court to order the police to lodge cases of forgery and fraud against Lalit Modi and other directors and the alleged sellers of the two havelis, who were allegedly not the legitimate owners themselves.
However, the court had dismissed the application in 2010. A revision was later filed, which was challenged in the high court which allowed the revision. It was the first hearing in the revision, said AK Jain, the counsel for the petitioner.
Jain said Lalit Modi and his wife bought two havelis in Amer for R9 lakh from a Bhattacharya family, who were themselves tenants there. “It was a clear case of usurping government property and we wanted a criminal case against both the buyer and the seller. Lalit Modi bought the properties in the name of his company, Ananda Heritage,” he said.
It has earlier been reported that the registered address of Ananda Heritage Pvt. Ltd. in Sanganer was a fake address as the plot number mentioned didn’t exist.
The court has issued notices to the Modis and others and fixed the next date for hearing on September 3.
