At BJP meeting, Amit Shah takes indirect jibe at Shanta
BLUNT Party chief says workers should not get carried away by Congress ‘propaganda’
NEW DELHI: BJP chief Amit Shah on Monday took an indirect jibe at Lok Sabha MP Shanta Kumar, saying party leaders should be cautious about not getting carried away by the Congress propaganda on Lalitgate and Vyapam scam. He added that party members should be proud of the achievements of the Modi government.
In his letter dated July 10, the Kangra MP had referred to controversy surrounding BJP leaders and had claimed that Vyapam scam had made party workers hang their head in shame. The BJP had quickly dissociated itself from the contents of the letters, saying the veteran from Himachal Pradesh may have got carried away by Congress propaganda.
On Wednesday, Shah reiterated it at the BJP parliamentary party meeting and asked party leaders to expose the Congress.
“We will expose those we are trying to disrupt our journey on the path to progress over fabricated issues. We will take them in Parliament and on streets... We will not let Congress suc- ceed. Our state governments, our chief ministers are doing a very good work and doing it with honesty,” Union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi quoted Shah as saying.
In an interview to Karan Thapar for India Today, Kumar, however, claimed at least 3 ministers have congratulated him for speaking out and made it clear that they support what he has said in his letter.
Kumar declined to name the ministers but suggested they were seniors.
He also claimed that the majority of the BJP was with him and he spoke for all of them. Kumar said the BJP called itself a party with a difference but that difference had diminished and eroded.
On Tuesday, Madhya Pradesh CM had responded to Kumar saying Vyapam was the propaganda of Congress, which was playing politics over scam-related deaths.
In his five-page letter, Chouhan has apprised Kumar of the realities of the scam and the initiatives taken by his government to expose it. He said even the recent CBI probe was ordered at his initiative.
