Himachal HC bans bullfighting in state

-

SHIMLA: The Himachal Pradesh high Court has prohibited fights between bulls and other animals organized at fairs and other events in the state. Calling such fights “cruelty towards animals”, a division bench comprising justices Dharmchand Chaudhary and Tarlok Singh Chauhan issued the order on a petition filed by an animal rights activist, Sonali Purewal, and directed the state government to ensure the ban as well as laws under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 were fully enforced. According to the petitioner, fights between birds, bulls and other animals were a common occurrence at traditional fairs during which animals were often hurt but were not provided medical treatment.
