Preventing suicides more important

Apropos the news item ‘Farmer suicides: Punjab okays relief policy’ (July 22), how long can the distressed families survive on `3 lakh? The government must ensure that the relief amount reaches the family in three days. More important is to make the life of farmers better and easy. This can be done by ensuring remunerative prices of crops, better mandi regime, on-the-spot purchase and payment and adequate crop insurance.
