- – Jeevan Prakash Sharma

Degrees, offered by non-accredited institutes in India in collaboration with foreign universities are not valid in India. However, if you thought such degrees to be valid in reputed institutes abroad, you are mistaken.

The copy of a joint degree offered by Pearl Academy and Nottingham Trent University, forwarded to the United States-India Educational Foundation, elicited the following response from Renuka Raja Rao, country coordinator, EducationUSA advising services: “US universities accept applications from international students who have the qualifying prerequisite education from accredited institutions in their home countries. Since Pearl Academy does not meet this requirement, students from there may not be considered at accredited American institutions.”

However, Pearl Academy claims that its students have already studied in universities like Academy of Art University, San Francisco, USA, Atlanta University, USA, Berkeley College, USA, Boston University, Central Saint Martins, UK, Chelsea College of Art and Design, London, Creative

‘MY INSTITUTE HAS CONVINCED MY PARENTS THAT MY DEGREE WILL BE VALID EVERYWHERE EXCEPT INDIA,’ SAYS A STUDENT

After HT Education had published an article on July 1, 2015 highlighting how foreign degrees issued on Indian soil were not valid in India for several reasons, a lot of institutes have started convincing students about the international validity of these degrees.

“My institute has made me sign papers which say that my degree is not valid in India as it doesn’t have UGC or AICTE approval. But they have convinced my parents that my degree will be valid everywhere except India because these are international degrees,” says a student who is pursuing a design course in one of the institutes.
