And college life it is...! After a two-month wait post the Class 12 Board exams, some of you have finally stepped into a new zone. The transition from school to college is one of the major events in one’s life. It evokes a sense of excitement, fear and nervousness. Here are some tips for freshers.

KNOW THAT EVERYONE IS AS NERVOUS AS YOU ARE The other students you meet on campus might put on a bold front, but that doesn’t mean they’re not nervous. This is a new experience for everyone.

Tip: Keep calm and be yourself. Don’t let the nervousness reflect in your speech and body language.

BE SOCIAL Try to recognise your batchmates. Try and recall their names. Networking in class will help you in the long run, especially while completing assignments, creating study groups, and associating with partners for group projects.

Tip: Try and make friends. You can even get your selfie clicked and flood your school friends’ newsfeeds on social media.

EXPLORE YOUR CAMPUS Try and explore the college campus and the facilities. Find out where classes will be held, the recreational facilities etc. This is something that should not be limited to the first week.

Tip: From Hudson Lane to Kamla Nagar, Sarojini Nagar to Select City Walk - the list of the places you should visit is endless.

SAY NO TO RAGGING Do not encourage or let others encourage ragging.

Tip: Do not run away from your seniors or be scared of them. There will be dancing, singing and lots of laughter. However, if faced with bullying and harassment, walk away and report the matter to the anti-ragging cell of your college immediately. Delhi University has strict rules against ragging.

BRING EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO CLASS Depending on the professor, your first course may just be a brief session where they explain the course structure, expectations, and syllabus. Make sure you pay attention to note down the dates that are mentioned.

Tip: Don’t forget to bring all that you may require for class, including stationery, folders, sticky notes, your laptop, etc. You never know what you might need.

WEAR SOMETHING COMFORTABLE Wear something that you’re comfortable in, but also something you feel you look good in. If you feel confident, it’s likely to get reflected in your body language.

Tip: Boys may pair their old pair of denims with a cool slogan T-shirt for that perfect look. Girls can combine jeans with cotton kurtis, T-shirts etc.
