CHANDIGARH: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Capt Amarinder Singh on Tuesday ridiculed what he called the “competitive lies” of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in “a bid to befool the people of Punjab”.

“Sukhbir Badal and Arvind Kejriwal have shamelessly entered into a competition of telling lies and make bogus claims at the cost of taxpayers’ money,” Amarinder said in a statement, referring to newspaper advertisements by the SADBJP government in response to a similar exercise by the AAP’s Delhi government.

The PPCC chief pointed out that while state government does not have money to pay salaries and pensions it has gone into an overdrive spending crores of rupees on newspaper advertisements.

“It is a typical megalomaniac vanity displayed by Sukhbir. While their government has turned the state bankrupt and development has come to a standstill he claims that Punjab is ranking top in all parameters,” he remarked.

He said the SAD-BJP government in Punjab, like the Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi, was throwing all moral, ethical and legal norms to the wind while carrying out its publicity campaign.

“Besides using bogus and unethical means of paid news, the both are spreading lies. This is a blatant abuse of public money,” he said.

Referring to Sukhbir’s claims of Punjab being power surplus, Amarinder said a majority of cities, towns and villages do not even get even 12-hour electricity supply.
