ANANDPUR SAHIB: Senior Congress leader Jagmeet Singh Brar on Thursday started a signature campaign against what he called “the dynastic rule of some families” in Punjab and to save the youth from the menace of drugs besides saving the crisis-ridden farming community.

Brar started the campaign after offering prayers at Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib here.

Talking to mediapersons here, Brar, however, did not name the families.

He said that he would visit all the 117 assembly constituencies in the state to motivate the people to come on a single platform for the prosperity of the state through the campaign.

He said that his campaign would be not like that of Capt Amarinder Singh, who had started holding rallies and formed the Jat Mahasabha for removing Partap Singh Bajwa from the post of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president.

“I will make a small effort for Punjab, Punjabi and Punjabiyat by rising above political considerations,” Brar said.

He demanded resignation of Amarinder from the top post of the Jat Mahasabha, saying there were serious allegations of rape and robbery against members of the Mahasbha during the recent quota agitation in Haryana.

Brar showered praised on party leader Bir Devinder Singh, saying that he was a seasoned and visionary leader.

He also opposed the presence of election strategist Prashant Kishor in Congress meetings.

“Prashant Kishor could be a good political adviser for providing guidance from behind the scene, but his presence in party meetings was not right,” Brar said.

The Congress leader also announced that he would organise a large gathering of people from 60-km radius of Chandigarh on May 21.
