With man on bonnet, car speeds away in Gurgaon

-

GURGAON: In what appears to be a grab from a Bollywood film, a 34-year-old IT professional found himself on the bonnet of a speeding Honda City car in a busy market of Gurgaon. The incident captured on CCTV shows that the accused drove the car for nearly 500 metres until the victim fell off the bonnet.

The civil lines police have booked the unknown driver for rash driving, endangering the lives of people and attempt to culpable homicide. The incident took place on March 28.

At 5.40 pm on Monday, the victim, Prateek Laroiya, who works in Udyog Vihar, was driving in his Swift Dezire car towards Sector 4 with his 3-year-old son. Near the BSNL office, a grey Honda City car hit his car from the rear.

Prateek confronted the driver. The accused driver agreed to compensate Prateek for the damage. But as Prateek sat in his car, the accused, in his mid- thirties, reportedly hit a motorcycle. A few blocks away, the accused allegedly hit another motorcycle near a red light. Prateek, who was following the accused, witnessed this. He reached the spot and alighted from his car to confront him. But the accused driver then tried to run him over.

Prateek took evasive action and found himself on the bonnet. Instead of stopping the car, the accused stepped on the gas. Prateek was stuck on the bonnet for nearly 500 metres, before he fell off the vehicle. He escaped unhurt. “With me on the bonnet, the car was accelerating away. The driver didn’t intend to stop the vehicle,” Prateek said.

The accused fled from the spot. The victim filed a complaint at the nearest police station in Sector 14. But a case could not be lodged due to lack of evidence. He couldn’t note down the registration number of the car. HTC
