Haryana Police recruitment: No fresh cases of drug abuse in Kurukshetra
KURUKSHETRA: The steps taken by the Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC) to control the alleged use of drugs among candidates for the ongoing police recruitment here have brought the desired results, as no fresh cases of drug use have been found.
HSSC chairman Bharat Bhushan Bharti had announced the measures soon after three youths allegedly died due to overdosing on performance-enhancing drugs during the physical fitness test for police recruitment, but the delay in taking such steps has raised questions as over one lakh candidates had already participated in the physical test for the recruitment of constables that began on June 15.
“No fresh case of use of drugs during recruitment has been reported in civil hospital as doctors are now examining the candidates right before the physical fitness test,” Kurukshetra civil surgeon SK Nain told Hindustan Times.
A senior official monitoring the recruitment process said, “The order that the candidates found using drugs during physical test will be disqualified has also brought results as the candidates are not taking any risk now.”
Kurukshetra superintendent of police (SP) Simardeep Singh said, “The new directions have effectively put a check on the use of drugs among candidates.”
Also, the HSSC has reportedly reduced the number of the candidates from 5,000 to 3,000 per batch, due to hot weather conditions and the tests are being conducted at 6am or after 5pm.
‘NO ARRANGEMENTS FOR SHELTER’
Though the candidates do not have doubts about the transparency in the recruitment process, involving a written test, they complain about the poor arrangements for them at the recruitment centre, situated on the Umari road.
Candidates, who are pouring in from all parts of Haryana and neighbouring states, said the authorities should set up a temporary shelter for them.
Sources said about 2 lakh youths are likely to participate in the physical test for the 10,000 posts of constable in the Haryana Police. The recruitment drive started on June 15 and will go on till July 12.
