THRUST ON MAKING WOMAN SARPANCHES INDEPENDENT

NILOKHERI (KARNAL): The newlyelected sarpanches in Haryana are taking training in administration at the Haryana Institute of Rural Development (HIRD), as promised by the BJP government.

The aim of the training is to teach the sarpanches how to work and behave, as most of them have been elected for the first time. The panchayat secretaries from every block are also attending the mandatory training for better coordination.

“The training has been designed to teach every subject related to the working of sarpanches,” said Sushil Kumar Mehta, assistant professor at the HIRD.

“Besides the administrative part and schemes being launched by the government, we are providing them training on how to deal with the social issues in their village,” he added.

HIRD officials said the motive behind the training was also to make the sarpanches, especially the women, capable to work without help of their family members. Most of the sarpanches taking training are happy as the training will help them to work effectively.

But the woman sarpanches, who have to stay in the institute during the training, said that the training should be arranged at their nearby locations.

“They are providing us accomodation and food, but it is difficult to stay away from children and family,” said a woman sarpanch requesting anonymity.

Officials said this is the first time when such a training programme has been organised for sarpanches. As many as 40 sarpanches, 20 from two blocks each, are taking training in every batch.
