Samana head constable posts suicide threat on Facebook alleging harassment by seniors

PATIALA: A police head constable (HC) posted in Samana threatened to commit suicide on his Facebook page, alleging harassment at the hands of his seniors.

In his post, HC Pargat Singh wrote that SP (city) Daljeet Singh Rana, Tripuri station house officer (SHO) Shaminder Singh and ASI Parminder Singh threatened to ‘implicate him in false case’ and that he has been left with no choice than to end his life.

A city resident had lodged a police complaint last year against the constable, his wife and his sister-in-law in connection with a chit fund fraud. Sources say that after the intervention of the police, he agreed to pay `1.4 lakh in installments and entered into a compromise with the complainant.

After failing to recover the promised money, the complainant again sought the police action and this led to Pargat’s outburst on social media.

Pargat Singh said he was forced to write the post after the police pressure became unbearable. He claimed that he was about to commit suicide on Tuesday but was stopped by his relatives. “I do not have any political or departmental approach, so I decided to put it on the social media for the solution of my problem,” said Pargat.

He claimed that his sister-inlaw was a real defaulter. “Since the complaint was related to higher-ups authorities, I was made to pay for her liability. I was forced to comprise last year,” he added. SP city Daljit Singh Rana claimed that all the matter was investigated under the provisions of the law and if he had taken the money, he would have to return it.

Meanwhile, the SHO denied his involvement in the case and said he was unaware of the issue. ASI Parminder Singh said he did not make any call on his number and had already sent the file to the higher authorities after the inquiry.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Gurmeet Singh Chauhan said he would look into the matter and if anybody found guilty would be punished according to law.
